Frequently Asked Questions
What are Webster Packs?
A Webster Pack is a well-sealed, tamper evident device that allows individual medicine doses to be organised according to the dose schedule determined by a Patient’s prescriber. This can be in the form of a blister pack or tab-timer.
Webster packs are ideal for people who are taking multiple medications and can help alleviate stress and hassle out of managing medications. Webster packs are also ideal for young children who may require the administration of medication within school hours. Webster packs can be made up weekly, fortnightly or monthly depending on your needs.
How do I become a webster patient?
To become a webster patient, we will require a medication chart from your regular doctor, so we know what medications are to be packed as well as on what day and at what time. To be eligible for a dose administration service, a patient must:
- Hold a Medicare card and/or a Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) card; and
- Have a government-issued concession card
Once registered as a patient into our system, there will be a setup fee of $25 as well as an ongoing fee of $5 per pack for the packing of the webster pack. There will also be costs associated with the medications required for the pack, however, this cost is subject to change.
For more information about Webster Packs, visit Webster Care or ask our friendly staff in store.
What is the safety net & how can I reach it?
The safety net is a program which helps individuals and families reduce the cost of prescription medicines once they have spent a certain amount in a calendar year. The program is managed through the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS). The Australian government helps cover part of the cost through the PBS scheme, making it easier for people to afford necessary prescribed medicines at a lower cost. Once you reach a spending limit, known as the Safety Net Threshold ($277.20 for concession holders, or $1748.20 for General patients), the cost of your medicines will be reduced or free for the rest of the calendar year.
The PBS Safety Net is a program which includes script costs for:
- the person
- the person’s partner or de facto partner
- children under the age of 16 who are in the care and control of the person
- full-time students under the age of 25 who are dependent on the person.
You may reach the safety net sooner by accumulating your family spending on PBS medicines supplied through community pharmacies, private hospitals, and PBS and non-PBS medicines from the outpatient pharmacy of a public hospital. Prescriptions for some PBS items, however, are not eligible for Safety Net benefits. These may include items that are re-supplied as an ‘early supply’.

What are electronic prescriptions?
As of September, 2020, changes were made to the commonwealth legislation to recognise an electronic prescription as a legal form of prescription to allow supply of medicines. Electronic prescriptions are an alternative to paper prescriptions which will allow people a convenient method to access their medications and may lessen risk of infection being spread in general practice waiting rooms and community pharmacies. Paper prescriptions will still be available.
Currently only the token method of electronic prescriptions is available. In this instance prescriptions are delivered in the form of a token to a patients preferred email or smartphone. This token can then be used at the pharmacy to dispense a patients medication. If there are any repeats on the prescription a new token will be sent to the patient when the prescription is dispensed.
At Keiraville Pharmacy we are ‘Electronic Prescription Ready’ and are already processing electronic prescriptions. For more information visit https://digitalhealth.gov.au/get-started-with-digital-health/electronic-prescriptions or come into store.
